My story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching - they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk and culminating on 17th September, celebrates their many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their work.

Zinave National Park is situated in the Inhambane Province of Mozambique and is an integral part of the Mozambican component of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. The area represents a transition between the wet and dry tropical areas. The park has very diverse tree species and at least 41 species of grasses.

Peace Parks entered into a Co-management Agreement with Mozambique’s National Administration for Conservation Areas for the development of Zinave in 2015. The rangers ensure that area integrity is maintained across the park by means of daily patrols or other types of law enforcement operations. They also assist with human-wildlife conflict; this requires the rangers to act as mentors and advisors to the local population.

The WRC 2021 funds will be used to procure additional operational equipment for the rangers. The funds from the 2022 WRC would be used to better equip the rangers to carry out their duties effectively. This would boost the morale of the rangers and give them the confidence to operate in the field.

Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Follow campaign updates on social media with #ForWildlifeRangers

Peace Parks was established in 1997 with the dream is to re-establish, renew and preserve large functional ecosystems that transcend man-made boundaries – thereby protecting and regenerating natural and cultural heritage vital to enabling and sustaining a harmonious future for man and the natural world. Peace Parks shares in and contributes to Africa’s larger vision of establishing a community-centred, regionally-integrated and sustainably-managed network of world-class transfrontier conservation areas.
