My story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching - they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk and culminating on 17th September, celebrates their many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their work.

Banhine National Park forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. It is an important ecological link between Limpopo and Zinave National Parks in Mozambique and Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe. The Park features extensive plains and flood areas which form crystal clear lagoons and are an important passage point for migratory birds that flock en-mass during the rainy season.

Banhine sits within the heart of the Great Limpopo TFCA enabling conservation connectivity between the TFCA Parks – making the ranger’s role so important in dealing with illegal charcoaling, logging and poaching. Two mobile teams are on call for various types of operations and patrols to counter wildlife crime activities, as well as observation posts and information driven operations.

WRC 2021 funds will be utilised to procure much needed equipment to ensure effective and accurate reporting, management and conservation actions in the park. WRC support in 2022 will assist with the purchase of personal uniform pieces such as footwear, pocket knives, multitools, emergency equipment and rain attire, as well as load bearing equipment.

Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Follow campaign updates on social media with #ForWildlifeRangers

Peace Parks was established in 1997 with the dream is to re-establish, renew and preserve large functional ecosystems that transcend man-made boundaries – thereby protecting and regenerating natural and cultural heritage vital to enabling and sustaining a harmonious future for man and the natural world. Peace Parks shares in and contributes to Africa’s larger vision of establishing a community-centred, regionally-integrated and sustainably-managed network of world-class transfrontier conservation areas.
