Wild Chimpanzee Foundation - Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2022
The Wild Chimpanzee Foundation’s mission is to enhance the survival of the remaining wild chimpanzee populations and their habitat, thereby participate in saving the behavioural diversity of this fascinating species.
My story
Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching - they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.
The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk and culminating on 17th September, celebrates their many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their work.
The Cavally Classified Forest (CCF) and the TaÏ National Park (TNP) where WCF is working are located in the southwest of Ivory Coast. These tropical forests of high environmental interest are home to endangered species such as Jentink duiker's, pygmy hippopotamus and West African chimpanzees.
The ecoguards assume a dissuasive presence against offenders in the CCF. They collect information on the state of natural resources to transmit to SODEFOR, the authority in charge of classified forests' management and repression of infractions. Through their work, the ecoguards contribute to the maintenance of balanced ecosystems in Cavally Classified Forest.
The funds raised by the WRC contributed significantly to supporting the ecoguards and ecoguides program during the covid period, when they were limited. This has helped to protect the wildlife ecosystem and combat poaching. Over the next few months, we aim to recruit a dozen new ecoguards, the majority of whom will be women, from the surrounding communities. Participating in creating local jobs and developing local skills.
Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Follow campaign updates on social media with #ForWildlifeRangers
