My story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching - they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk and culminating on 17th September, celebrates their many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their work.

ZimParks’ Mid-Zambezi Region is made up of 7 contiguous wildlife protected areas of 1,282,000ha. Rangers are employed in territorial integrity, biological monitoring, conservation management, community relations, and in the management of equipment, resources and tourism.

The WRC has significantly supported Mid-Zambezi Region’s Rangers in enhanced security, morale and efficacy, daily field-based and law-enforcement operations and responding to informed area management across the landscape. Rangers received monthly food hampers to support both families and their patrols and operational efficacy was enhanced through the provision of boots and backpacks, t-shirts and caps, Blackview devices, and fuel.

In 2022, the need for ongoing vital baseline support that WRC has hitherto provided to ZimParks Rangers cannot be overemphasised. An ongoing provision of monthly food hampers and consumable patrol equipment such as boots and backpacks will continue to have a major impact on Rangers’ patrol efficacy. The provision of vehicle fuel for deployment of land-based patrols and for boat patrols on the Zambezi River also remains a priority.

Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Follow campaign updates on social media with #ForWildlifeRangers

Wildlife Rangers on the frontlines of conservation, our Natural Forests and Wildlife face unprecedented challenges and threats as a result of COVID-19, climate change, socio-economic crises, and unsustainable illegal harvesting of wildlife, wood and natural resources. Amongst other facets of wildlife protection, Tashinga Initiative addresses ZimParks' Ranger security, morale and efficacy, strengthens field-based daily operations, enhances law enforcement operations which include wildlife protection patrols, towards enhanced management of protected areas and wildlife populations. Working with its global network of partners and donors, Tashinga Initiative has contributed significantly towards a more secure environment for wildlife since 2006.
