My story

Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching - they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more.

The Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk and culminating on 17th September, celebrates their many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their work.

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Man & Biosphere Reserve, and IUCN Protected and Conserved Green List Area. Lewa protects species, initiates and supports community conservation and development programs, and educates neighbouring areas in the value of wildlife. The Lewa-Borana Landscape (LBL) is a 93k-acre protected area for some of Africa’s most threatened wildlife, including 15% of all Kenyan rhinos.

Lewa’s community initiatives benefit more than 60k people per year, including approximately 8k students and 1.8k women who leverage Lewa’s micro-loan program to start their own businesses, reducing gender inequalities. Each year, more than 40k people have access to healthcare as a result of Lewa’s partner clinics and over 25k people have access to clean water via projects in local communities. Lewa also supports locally led forestry conservation efforts and sustainable agriculture practices.

The WRC has ensured that during Covid-19, full salaries were reinstated. This helped in lifting the morale of the rangers. Support in 2022 will continue this and provide strength for the operational support to both the armed and general security teams.

Give today, and the Scheinberg Relief Fund will match every dollar donated, amplifying your impact. Follow campaign updates on social media with #ForWildlifeRangers
